Dental prostheses with abutments and locators
In cases of complete tooth loss, there are two types of implant solutions.
One is fixed bridges attached to implants that feel like your own teeth (you can read about this in a separate menu), and the other is removable dentures stabilized on implants: bar or locator dentures.
What are bridge and locator dentures?
These dentures are plastic, reduced removable dentures made for implants in cases of complete tooth loss. The pink artificial part holds the plastic white teeth in place.
They are very stable in the mouth, but must be removed several times a day for cleaning. It is very important to note that the upper denture does not have a palate section, which causes a lot of discomfort with traditional dentures.
The advantages of these replacements are:
- If significant gum recession has developed, it can also be replaced with artificial tissue, and sunken lips can be lifted very nicely.
- Fewer implants are needed to prepare the replacement.
- No bone grafting required
- Cheaper than fixed implant solutions
- The dental prosthesis is easy to clean and can be used even in cases of significant bone loss.
- The replacement rubber pads can be replaced after they wear out (approx. every 1-2 years), which increases stability again.
- In the event of any damage to the dentures, repairs can be carried out quickly and easily.
- No need to use denture adhesives
- Implants prevent further bone loss and guarantee comfortable, natural-feeling wear.
Only choose full-value implants!
At Globe Dental, we only use two-piece, full-value Straumann implants to secure dentures, which are proven to be durable and are considered a professionally accepted solution, unlike mini-implants, which are not necessarily true. Mini-implants do not provide adequate stability and, since the superstructure is integrated with the implant, they cannot be repaired if they wear out or become damaged…
Wearing a bar denture cannot be compared to wearing a traditional removable denture.

These dentures work by placing them in the mouth and pressing them onto the bar or locators, where they are secured, ensuring that the dentures remain stable.
If there is insufficient bone mass or space in the mouth to prepare a bar-retained denture, a locator solution can be prepared, which works in a similar way to a patent.
The stability of the bridge is much greater than that of the locator, but the advantage of the locator is that it can be repaired and worn for a longer period of time. Both bridge and locator dentures provide adequate support, restore the necessary chewing ability, and eliminate speech disorders. The dentures can be easily removed for cleaning.
